The Importance Of

In Recovering From A Stroke
PREVIEW
Rest, relaxation, and particularly sleep are an integral part of Stroke Recovery. Rest, especially between the demands of Acute Rehab sessions, was then and is still what gets me through the day. Sleep, particularly deep, restful sleep contributed greatly to the recovery of my brain and its processing of the new connections it had discovered in that day's rehabilitation. In this guide, I will share how I became successful in promoting quality rest, relaxation, and sleep.

Sleep Was A Constant Challenge In My Stroke Recovery
My hospital routine was my first challenge. Having to be awake for my vital readings and strict medication meant that I was often awakened from a sound sleep. Later when I returned home, I was still challenged in much the same way, only with a little more latitude, permitting the occasional extra hour of sleep to make up for a restless night.

Sleep DOs And DON"T In My Stroke Recovery
In this guide, I detail the DOs and DON'Ts of what became the routine "management" of my sleep in recovery. Here I share everything from hours of sunshine, bedtime and waking targets, and managing those things, like urination, known to compromise my sleeping hours. Included are references to methods used to track and gauge the quality of my sleep.

How Rest And Relaxation Helped My Stroke Recovery
Every day my recovery activities TAXED my energies. To get through a typical day I had to balance periods of activity, sometimes quite intense, with almost equal periods of rest. Quality rest periods and ultimately true relaxation was only achieved when I had trained myself to clear thoughts of planning and executing some activity, worrisome thoughts, and any preventable distractions. The methods I used to achieve real rest and relaxation are detailed in this guide.
Aids To Managing Sleep During My Stroke Recovery

Several things challenged my sleep in recovery. This was especially true when I returned home. We need a non-invasive method for recording and evaluation the several characteristics related to sleep through the night. There were several reasons why I choose
to purchase an APPLE WATCH® early in my recovery. The first was the emergency fall alarm, but equally valuable for me was the SleepWatch®. In this Guide I outline how this watch and the app worked for me and helped in managing my Stroke Recovery.

Dealing With Fatigue During My Stroke Recovery
This Guide would not be complete without addressing the effect pure FATIGUE had on my reserve of energy. It was, and is still, the absolute "wildcard" in Stroke Recovery. When it arrives, always without warning, it is feels like a grey shroud settles over me and robs me of my will to do anything.
