Monitoring My Health To Prevent A

Second Stroke, Was Our

 24/7 Responsibility.

A Guide For Monitoring
My Medications, Blood Pressure And Heart Rate.

PREVIEW

Acute Rehab sent me and my Caregivers home with a keen sense of responsibility for keeping me healthy and as safe as possible from having a second Stroke. This, combined with admonitions that I should extend our efforts to include all aspects of my staying healthy, meant we had to get
ready from the first day to extend the special attention to my health.

Prescriptions Are Critical For Ensuring My Stroke Recovery
I returned home from the hospital with an inventory of prescription medications, an appreciation for their strict administration, and sober acceptance of the fact that this was going to be our RESPONSIBILITY from then on. In this Guide we will share with you how we managed to keep my many medications sorted out, and on schedule. Routines that reinforced our appreciation for truly managing my prescriptions, along with those over the counter remedies necessary to maintain my good health.

Monitoring Blood Pressure At Home After My Stroke
My hospital team instilled in me and my Caregivers profound respect for understanding and monitoring my Blood Pressure. They made it clear that this was necessary to ensure us all that should we, for whatever reason, detect a significant rise in my daily BP readings that
this was a signal that my condition should be communicated to my primary
physician with as much documentation as possible. In this Guide we share our understanding and appreciation for the importance of Blood pressure as an indicator. And outline our methods for monitoring, recording, and reporting our daily attention to this serious indicator.

Drinking Alcohol Was NOT Be A Part Of My Stroke Recovery
Admittedly, drinking too much alcohol, especially with salty garnishes, contributed to my
having a Stroke. Obviously, I did not imbibe while in the hospital. But, when I returned I still had no desire to take up my old drinking habits. Early in my recovery, I did have the occasional beer or glass of wine with my Son when he was home. Eventually, I did have a yen for the taste of the hard stuff. But, then I took some time to really investigate what effect if any, alcohol of any kind could have on my recovery - especially with regard to its contributing to another Stroke. In this Guide, I share my discoveries regarding alcohol and medications - plus the effect any alcohol has on blood pressure and its increased elevation.
