My Stroke Recover
PREVIEW
Early in my recovery it was obvious that I needed to get physically stronger and greatly improve my balance. Both were absolutely necessary to achieve my goal of walking without assistance and standing for extended periods. Progress had bin made in my bed and seated exercise routines. But, these did not promote action of the LARGE leg muscles I need to achieve my goals. Getting up on my feet and standing for the necessary muscle movements was something I had to do EVERYDAY.

I Began My Exercise For Stroke Recovery In A Prone Position
When I returned home from the hospital I could barely sit up, and I could not stand without someone's help. So, the process of building an exercise program began in bed, in a prone position. Concentrating on my Abdominal CORE Muscles, I combined the prone exercises prescribed by my out-patient physical therapist with others I researched myself. In this
Guide I demonstrate the full range of exercises achieved while still bedridden on my return home from the hospital.
Stretching Is Always A Prelude To Exercise In My Stroke Recovery
Exercises While Seated Were The Next Step In My Stroke Recovery
Having achieved sufficient abdominal and lower back strength I progressed to exercises performed while seated on the edge of my bed or in a chair. This allowed me greatly expand the exertion on my core which now benefited from growing leg strength and the full engagement of my shoulder and arms. In the Guide I demonstrate how I modified exercises traditionally done standing up, into exercises that

Building Better Balance Was Necessary In My Stroke Recovery
A necessary prelude to my being able to stand for exercising was BALANCE. I found balance to be the most complex achievement in the whole of my recovery, from shedding my walkers, to being confident on my eBike, command of my balance was mandatory. In this Guide I detail the dynamics of balance in a healthy body and how I used this knowledge to reprogram my mind and body to sit, stand and walk with little to know assistance.

Combining All Elements Of Exercise In My Stroke Recovery
The development of my Exercise Program began with assessing my muscle tone, coordination, breathing, and heart rate. Once I had a greater appreciation of how these elements were, or were not, ready for exercise, I could begin to design a program
that started me on the path to becoming significantly stronger and with better balance.
A new interest in the mechanics of my mind and body, with the help of my Care Team.
