Dealing With A Host Of Emotions In My Recovery
So there I was, a Type A, self-sustaining male, used to getting things done quickly and effectively in my life and home. Almost immediately on returning home I found I had to stake stock of an emotional stew that was simmering and could and did boil over if I did not make a conscious effort to keep the lid on things.
Sorting Through My Emotions
The panic and fear I had experienced in the hospital had now ripened into Impatience, Frustration, and Annoyance with myself, and more critically with those trying their best to help me at home. In this guide we share what we faced and how we came to deal with the emotional dynamics for me and my Caregivers.
Surviving a stroke invites an intensity in even the most common of our emotions.
Emotional Challenges In My Stroke Recovery
In this Guide we will share how we resolved many of the issues brought on by my emotions, and those of my Caregivers. Emotions and my relationship with my Caregivers were something we had to deal with almost as soon as I came home.
Being so dependent on others brought on most of the negative emotions I projected onto those whose sole objective was to make me comfortable, and keep me safe. I was not always proud of my emotions, especially when I let them get out of control.
Turning over glass beads was the very first of my Occupational Therapies.
Positive Emotions Can Boost Stroke Recovery
Negative motions definitely got in the way of progress in my Stroke Recovery. And, controlling negative attitudes will go along way toward building and maintaining a heathy and helpful relationship with Caregivers. But the best emotions are the POSITIVE ones that can actually propel a recovery . . . especially when it starts to slow down. In this Quick Guide we have elaborated on those emotions we felt were positive
were positive and helped us. Two of these are PRIDE and CONFIDENCE. These could be achieved in even the simplest
actions, like the glass bead exercise I discovered early in my
hospitalization.
